Aiden McGeady has joined Sunderland in a £250,000 deal from Everton.

The former Celtic favourite is one of the first signings of Simon Grayson who worked with the Ireland star on loan at Preston North End last season.

McGeady joined Everton in January 2014 from Spartak Moscow but never got a look in under Ronald Koeman.

Last season he scored eight times in 32 matches as Preston steered well clear of the relegation battle in their return to the Championship.

Grayson has been given the clear brief to get Sunderland back into the Premier League and is concentrating on English based players ready for the 46 game marathon.

McGeady left Celtic in 2010 in a £10m deal to Spartak Moscow which allowed Neil Lennon to bring in Gary Hooper, Joe Ledley, Emilio Izaguirre, Anthony Stokes and Beram Kayal.

With a World Cup year coming up McGeady will be pleased to have got his future settled working under a manager that trusts him.
