Club 1872 have followed up their incredible statement warning against title stripping with an amazing attack on Paul Murray’s favourite newspaper.

In March 2015 after being awarded a new blazer as Dave King swept to power the Borders based banker praised the courageous journalism of the ailing Glasgow tabloid.

The Record has a long history of backing clubs from Ibrox with former chief sports reporter James Traynor in awe of Dave Murray’s succulent lamb before quitting the paper to join Charles Green’s tribute act.

Recent events however appear to have upset Club 1872 which is in effect James Blair who is also the company secretary for the tribute act.

In a recent statement Club 1872 explained: “Rangers and Club 1872 have met with Daily Record Editor, Murray Foote on several occasions and attempted to resolve the ongoing issues with a number of Daily Record staff who appear unable to put their own feelings for our club to one side. Despite these efforts – and reassurances that more balance would be achieved – the situation has worsened.

The Daily Record has a number of fair and competent journalists but the senior management of the paper seem to be completely unable or unwilling to control a handful of their staff, who go out of their way to produce skewed and at times completely false coverage of our club.

There are currently three people paid by the Daily Record – one in a senior editorial role – who have made overtly sectarian comments about Rangers fans. This has been condoned and they continue to be in a position to influence the output of the newspaper on matters regarding our club.

The statement concluded: “If Rangers supporters continue to choose to spend their cash or read news online via the Daily Record website then it is unlikely anything will change. If we do not, then perhaps those running it will finally realise that we will no longer accept anything other than fair and balanced coverage of our club. It’s time to change the Record.”

It’s believed that the sectarian comments are a reference to the h word which as almost everyone knows applies to fans and players of the Ibrox clubs and not to any particular religious group.

It’s unlikely that the withdrawal of the mythical blue pound will make any difference to Paul Murray’s favourite newspaper.
