Sevco fan group The Founding Fathers are upset about the tribute act arranging a friendly with Marseilles.

In season 92/93 the old Rangers club finished runners up to the French aces in their Champions League group with Marseilles going into the final where they beat AC Milan 1-0.

During that same season Marseilles were found to have offered money to three Valencciennes in a vital match near the end of the season with a win helping Marseilles to win the title for the fifth season running.

Despite winning the trophy on the park, like Dave Murray’s financially doped teams of the years 1998 to 2011, it seems that some Sevco fans think their team are the rightful owners of the 1993 Champions League crown!

Uefa’s record books still show Marseilles as the winners of the 92/93 Champions League although they weren’t allowed to defend the trophy of play in the 1993 European Super Cup.

Like many areas there is little logic in the Sevco thinking as they turn a blind eye to the reality of 14 titles in which their old club won using ineligible players.

Why Rangers would have a claim on the 1993 Champions League title ahead of AC Milan is another area that is difficult to work out, a year after those incidents Rangers (IL) were happy to do business with Marseilles to bring Basile Boli to Ibrox, Boli scored the only goal of the game in the 93 final against AC Milan.
