As a well established glib and shameless liar it was only to be expected.

Ignoring his company’s humiliating Europa League ko from Progres Niederkorn in midweek Dave King decided to talk about his favourite subject- Celtic.

A simple statement from the hoops expecting the football authorities to review the tax cheating years of Rangers (In Liquidation) seems to have caught the attention of the South African based criminal.

King’s interpretation of the Celtic statement is that they want to claim the five SPL titles won by David Murray’s financially doped club.

At no point in the Celtic statement is that suggested.

Although the club have made no comment an asterisk against the seasons in question would be much more acceptable to most Celtic fans.

Future historians will ask what happened during those years rather than see the Celtic were in the middle of a 20-in-a-row-run.

Almost every comment and statement that King, and his heavyweight PR adviser come up with can quickly be contradicted.

Today’s comments are in complete contrast by the apparent contrition that he showed five years ago as the second most important institution in Scotland slipped into liquidation with King and others unwilling to provide a life saving CVA.

In June 2012 King told the Daily Mail: “‘I think we should be sorry – and I certainly am sorry. We owe both the Rangers fans and the Scottish footballing public an apology.

Some of the representations made have betrayed more of a victim status. But I think somebody needs to apologise.

Clearly, that is not for Charles Green to do. But I am happy to say that I really believe we should be saying sorry and I think there is something to be sorry about.

And as a former director when these things were going on, I am minded to do so.

With regard to EBTs, I was on the board so I have to take some responsibility.

And I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.

I believe that, on behalf of myself and most of the board members who were with me and probably agree with me, that we should apologise for that.”

Today’s Celtic bating statement has got the gullible back onside after the midweek disaster against Progres.

With Celtic refusing to respond the glib and shameless liar can continue howling at the moon as Pedro Caixinha destroys the tribute act from within.
