Anthony Stokes has finally agreed to return to Hibs.

According to a report in The Sun the former Celt has agreed terms with Neil Lennon to return to the Edinburgh side for the third time.

Brendan Rodgers released Stokes a year ago with a four year contract with Blackburn terminated last month after a dismal season dogged by personal problems.

Lennon tried to bring Stokes in on loan in January and has kept in touch with the striker who only made three appearances for Blackburn from the turn of the year.

Stokes was an essential part of Lennon’s success at Celtic famously scoring twice in the 3-3 draw at Kilmarnock in which the former hoops boss admitted he was on the verge of resigning as Celtic trailed 3-0 at half time.

The two men clashed a number of times at Celtic but maintained a mutual respect with the race now on to get the striker in shape for Saturday’s SPFL opener at home to Partick Thistle.

Hibs’ first game of the season against Celtic is on September 30 at Celtic Park.
