Dulsions of Dorrans

Following the survival myth of 2012 it seems that there are two more items of fake news being pushed in Scottish football.

‘We matched them in the first half’ and ‘The gap is getting closer’ seems to be gaining currency since Saturday backed up by the third rate dive from Alfredo Morelos in a bid to win a penalty. When given a sight of goal late in the second half the Columbian hit man showed his predatory instinct by finding Row Z in the Copland Stand.

Only the serially deluded could take anything from the home team’s display at Ibrox but the need to fool the fans has always outweighed some nasty truths.

Five years into their heroic journey, the ‘return’ to the big time to even up some old scores Sevco are bang average and it has cost them a fortune to reach that stage. Ask Douglas Park.

Most clubs in the Premiership are improving, certainly those currently in the top half. Sevco are in reverse gear weighed down by debt and contracts that their administrators will wince at.

Despite all that Graham Dorrans believes that his club matched the champions in the first half.

The basis for this is a penalty claim and a cross from James Tavernier. Craig Gordon didn’t have an effort to save until Morelos headed from close range onto his shoulder. Other than that there was Nada.

In the first half, I thought we matched them,” Dorrans told The Sun. “The positive is that we were in the game.

They have good players, we knew it was going to be tough but I thought we matched them.

We were comfortable, despite not having as much of the ball as we would have liked.

They had a lot of possession without hurting us too much. They had a few chances. We knew it was important to stay in the game and we did that.

It’s a little bit disappointing that they scored quite early in the second half, which knocked us a little bit.

I don’t actually think it was a corner in the first place but it was disappointing. It’s a sloppy goal to lose and even the second is sloppy on our part — from the goal kick we lose the header.”

On Friday Sevco visit Hamilton and kick the match off in fifth place.
