Workaholic Pedro Caixinha is off on a sunshine break and told his stars to follow Kenny Miller and take a sunbed to success.

At his peak Miller was rarely without a tango glow with the revolutionary Ibrox boss following the same path.

Rather than watch League Cup semi-final opponents Motherwell in action yesterday at Hamilton Caixinha was in the Algarve enjoying some autumn sunshine.

Shortly after taking over from Mark Warburton Caixinha axed the midweek day off with the players given strict new fitness regimes to cut the gap to Aberdeen.

The close season break was cut to a fortnight forcing skipper Lee Wallace to miss out on his honeymoon to prepare for Progres Niederkorn.

During the September international break the former Santos Laguna chief spent time at a Portuguese University with sunshine rather than training sessions his new priority.

Pedro Mendes (Caixinha’s agent) told me about the need for sunlight,” Caixinha revealed to The Sun. “He used to go on a sunbed to make sure he got vitamin D.

The players can also take a plane and go wherever they want on their time off. It is part of their lives and they need to understand it.

I need to incentivise them to do it. I have spoken to the doctor about the need for vitamin D and I think it is part of the players’ prescriptions here.

You need to take it because your bones need it. It is important to have it or you will look grey and not great.”

Returning to his workaholic image he added: “I’m the type of guy who, when I have that need to switch off, I switch off. If I have three days like these coming up, I’ll switch off and let go.

I’m able to do that because I know myself very well. Since 1993, I’ve had this workaholic rhythm, since I was at university. I was the type of guy who would study to two in the morning but, since I’ve been in Scotland, I’m in my bed at 10 o’clock.”

Nine matches into their new regime Sevco are six points behind Aberdeen with back-to-back games against the Dons at the end of November.
