Sevco have stepped up their campaign to unsettle Derek McInnes and get the Aberdeen boss to Ibrox.

Over the last six days there has been a constant stream of stories about why McInnes should move to the Ibrox basket case.

Having rejected the job of managing Sunderland in the summer it would seem highly unlikely that McInnes would want to go to a club with chronic financial problems added to two batches of players brought in by previous short term managers.

Led by BBC Scotland and other on-message outlets there hasn’t been a single viewpoint that it would be career suicide for the former Bristol City manager.

Today the Rangers Observer, viewed by many as little more than a mouthpiece for the Ibrox PR department argues the case for McInnes to take over by claiming that he is actually the modern day Walter Smith.

Despite all the speculation and McInnes getting questioned about the vacancy at three separate media conferences no official move has been made.

With a rival club unsettled the situation is playing out perfectly for Sevco.

Meeting Aberdeen’s demand for compensation is a stage that the club would rather not think about, just as they have still to pay off Pedro Caixinha and his back-room staff.

In an ideal world McInnes would resign from Aberdeen then turn up a few weeks later at Ibrox without compensation being paid.

If he steps back and takes a detached look at the tactics being used by the fourth best club in Scotland he might just want to body swerve the whole pantomime. If he wants to know what an Ibrox boardroom promise is worth he should give Caixinha or Mark Warburton a phone call.
