Erik Sviatchenko expects to be fit for Celtic’s SPFL clash at Ross County on Saturday.

The defender has been out injured since the start of August when he picked up a knock in the Champions League qualifier away to Rosenborg.

Celtic’s central defence has been riddled with injury problems from the start of the season with Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata also spending time on the sidelines.

Nir Bitton and Mikael Lustig have played in the Champions League ties against Bayern Munich but Sviatcheko is hoping to play a role in the remaining matches.

I think we are aiming to get me fully fit for games as soon as possible,” the Dane told Celtic TV. “The international break was convenient because it let me get good sessions and then a bit of rest and keep on looking to the next game.

Those two games are critical. We have put ourselves in a good position but the job isn’t fully done yet and those two games are going to be decisive. I really hope I can play a part in them.

I played all six games last season [in the Champions League] which was an amazing experience so I hope I can play in those.”

Despite the international break Brendan Rodgers will have most of his squad available to prepare for Saturday’s trip to Dingwall.

After the clash with Owen Coyle’s side the hoops face their most daunting match of the season away to Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League.

Only Mikael Lustig and Tom Rogic are involved in qualifiers, Lustig tonight for Sweden away to Italy while Rogic hopes to see Australia through against Honduras after drawing the first leg 0-0 in Central America.
