Davie Provan joined the chorus of abuse aimed at Ibrox following the botched bid to appoint Derek McInnes as manager.
A six week campaign to unsettle the Aberdeen boss ended last Thursday when Aberdeen announced that their manager was staying on at Pittodrie.
That decision prompted an angry reaction from Ibrox with a statement that has been widely ridiculed with Aberdeen fans unfurling a banner reading ‘ CONCOMITANT YOU REDS’ at their match against Dundee.
There has been no further comment from Ibrox with Graeme Murty left in charge until the end of the year at least.
Reviewing the situation at Ibrox Provan wrote in The Sun: “Instead of retreating to lick their wounds, the Ibrox club issued a statement insisting: “We were subsequently made aware by Aberdeen’s statement that, at this stage in his career, it would be best for him to remain in his current post.
“We endorse that because moving to a massive club like Rangers is a big step with concomitant risk. We will only appoint someone in whom we have full confidence and who feels he is ready for the job.”
“What a mouthful of self-regarding drivel.
“Instead of playing to the gallery, Rangers should be asking themselves how they managed to botch an appointment that should have been a gimme.
“After sacking Caixinha it would only have taken Dave King to meet McInnes privately, tell him the terms and shake his hand.”
McInnes’ decision not to move to Ibrox has highlighted the structural problems at Ibrox that no amount of winning runs can cover up.
Ticking away in the background is the Court of Session hearing with the Takeover Appeal Board.
While the Sevco accounts claimed that King through his New Oasis Asset Limited will provide a loan of £4m his QC told the Court of Session that he was penniless.
