RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has no intention of letting Marvin Compper leave the club in January.

Yesterday the defender was linked with a January switch to Celtic after spending the majority of the season on the sidelines with the Bundesliga side.

Brendan Rodgers is on record as wanting to bring in central defenders next month with Compper an attractive option with his contract expiring in May.

The 32-year-old is vastly experienced but with Leipzig hoping to win a Champions League spot Hasenhuttl is in no mood to let the defender go in January.

I don’t want to get rid of any player in January,” he told The Sun.It’s  a squad game and we need them all, especially as we have had a lot of injuries recently.

Also, Marvin has never come to me and said he’s unhappy or put in a transfer request. So he will be here until the summer at least.”

Compper is likely to be one of many on a list of targets compiled by Rodgers as he looks to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.

Traditionally that window is to integrate players into the squad for the summer Champions League qualifiers but this year Celtic are also involved in the Europa League.

Getting a new look central defensive pairing together in time to face Zenit St Petersburg will be a priority for Rodgers as he hopes to take Celtic into the last 16 of the competition.
