Sky Sports have backed down from a ‘done deal; between Celtic and Brighton for Moussa Dembele to ‘holding talks’.

Based mainly on Chris Hughton acknowledging what every manager in the EPL feels, Dembele can play a bit, the broadcaster is still attempting to run with their earlier discredited tale rather than try to forget it ever happened.

Every agent in the business is talking to clubs at the moment, Dembele’s agent will have more than one client on his books and will be keen to find out the level of interest in all of his clients. He could well be discussing strikers with representatives of Brighton and other clubs.

Having avoided going to an English side 18 months ago there’s nothing about the strikers situation to suggest that he is now ready to join a relegation fight.

The second half of 2017 hasn’t been favourable for Dembele but if he can steer free of injury then 2018 can get him back to the sort of level that will bring interest from clubs much bigger than Brighton.

On Saturday Celtic play Sevco, if Brighton fancy it they could buy the Ibrox club lock stock and marble staircase and still have change for their money.
