McCann’s time lag

Desperate Neil McCann seems to be in a time warp as far as Celtic’s interest in Jack Hendry is concerned.

The Dundee boss grabbed the headlines today claiming that his club had turned down a ‘very low’ bid but crucially adding that there had been ‘nothing since’.

Normally when a manager comments on a transfer bid it has been made in the previous 24 hours.

Had Celtic bid for Hendry this week there would be no need to mention ‘nothing since’.

Any Sky Sports viewer would be well aware of McCann’s low opinion of Celtic and the difficulty he has given credit to anything that the club does.

McCann claimed: “There’s been a bid, a low bid, very low, but nothing since. I would think there would be more interest in the player but clearly they were told it wasn’t enough and that will be the message if it continues in that vein.”

It looks like Celtic expressed their interest some time ago and haven’t returned to the issue.

With just a few days left in the transfer window it wouldn’t be the biggest shock if the Dundee boss was using interest from Celtic to try and flush out a bid from elsewhere.

Having knocked back an offer from the Scottish champions McCann can open negotiations on February 1 to give Hendry a contract in line with his new found status in the game.
