Scott Brown is backing Jack Hendry to answer Celtic’s Europa League SOS.

With Marvin Compper cup-tied the last thing that Brendan Rodgers required at the weekend was injuries to Dedryck Boyata and Kris Ajer.

The full extent of those injuries has still to be identified leaving Hendry and Jozo Simunovic as the last central defenders standing ahead of the visit of Zenit St Petersburg.

Nir Bitton could be pushed back into defence but with Hendry cup-tied by Dundee he won’t be able to face Partick Thistle on Saturday pushing his hoops debut back to the visit of the Russians in ten days time.

It is always difficult when you first come into a new team but they (Hendry and Charly Musonda) have already settled in with the lads pretty well,” Brown told the Evening Times. “Jack has been playing so will be up to speed with us pretty quickly and we know that he is a good player.

“He is strong and had great potential to go on and do well here.”

After the drama of his move to Celtic, 24 hours after playing for Dundee in their Scottish Cup win over Inverness Caley Thistle, Hendry can spend this week settling in to the new training regime at Lennoxtown.

Partick Thistle face Sevco at home tomorrow night before crossing the city for Saturday’s fifth round tie against the cup holders.
