Neil McCann has admitted that Wednesday was a horrible day.

The Dundee boss watched in dismay as Scott Bain and Jack Hendry headed off to Celtic Park while Scott Allan told him that he’d rather play for Neil Lennon at Hibs.

To round things off, Julen Etxabeguren, brought in to replace Hendry suffered a serious injury in training and is unlikely to ever play for McCann.

It was a horrible day yesterday,” the Dundee boss told The Scotsman.

If I was to lose one of my best players then I was prepared to try to get the very best deal for the club.

McCann will have a free agent training with Dundee today in a bid to replace Hendry.

The one upside for the Dundee boss was bringing in Simon Murray on loan from Hibs as part of the transfer triangle that involved Bain and Allen.

Losing Allen to Hibs will be a big blow for Dundee with the on loan midfielder scoring the only goal of the game away to Inverness Caley Thistle on Tuesday night to book a home fifth round Scottish Cup tie against Motherwell.
