Brendan Rodgers has revealed that three Premiership clubs wanted to take Calvin Miller on loan during the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old started the 0-0 draw at home to St Johnstone but has the unenviable job of being back up to Kieran Tierney.

Rodgers converted Miller from a striker or left winger into a full-back and is delighted with the way that he has adapted to his new role.

Speaking to Radio Scotland about Miller after the St Johnstone game Rodgers said: “He has been excellent, I’ve had two or three Premiership clubs wanting to put him straight into their side, good sides.

Today it was important to give him some game time. The likes of Kieran (Tierney) who has obviously played so many games up to this point, it’s important to give some opportunities to Calvin who is training tremendously every day. He played very well.”

Miller was replaced by Tierney after 79 minutes as Celtic pushed for the goal that would have given them all three points.

The draw took the hoops nine points clear of Aberdeen and Sevco ahead of next Sunday’s trip to Pittodrie which falls three days after the return leg of the Europa League tie with Zenit St Petersburg.

Mikael Lustig missed the game due to a slight Achilles injury while Olivier Ntcham has suffered sickness since the first leg against Zenit.
