Leigh Griffiths believes that he has finally been cleared of the leg muscle strains that have dogged him over the last two seasons.

The Celtic striker picked up an ankle injury during the winter break in Dubai but came off the bench to score the winning goal when Celtic beat Partick Thiste 2-1 in the first post-split fixture.

Griffiths then started the game against Hibs on January 27 but after scoring the only goal of the game was beating his hands against the turf as a calf muscle flared up.

Those injuries have frustrated Brendan Rodgers as much as the striker but after more than two months out of action Griffiths is fully fit for the run in to the season.

The specialist identified straight away where it was coming from and how we can rectify that,” he told the Daily Record.

It is all to do with my hips. My hips, the muscle tissue, were so blocked that my calves and my hamstrings were doing double the workload.

I wasn’t getting the full range of my movement. That is why my calves were going either side.

Hopefully now that has been released and the muscles are flowing again, I will be back sharper with more movement.”

Since joining Celtic from Wolves in January 2014 Griffiths has bagged 97 goals with the century now within sight.

John Hartson was the last striker to reach that landmark with the former Hibs forward ready to join an elite band of players in Celtic history to reach the 100 goals mark.
