Sevco are facing a players rebellion with Graeme Murty’s squad ready to stand up for banned team-mates Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace.

According to a report in the normally staunch Daily Record the players are unhappy at two of their team-mates becoming the scapegoats for the 4-0 defeat from Celtic at Hampden.

An investigation has been launched as to what went on in the dressing room after the final whistle but it seems that there is little support for the way that the club has handled the situation.

Record Sport has learned there is a mounting feeling of unrest inside the Auchenhowie camp over the decision to suspend the duo following Sunday’s Scottish Cup capitulation against Celtic.

And a large group of Graeme Murty’s players are already itching for the chance to clear the names of Wallace and Miller as part of an internal disciplinary probe into the stormy aftermath of the Hampden thrashing.

It’s understood there were around 30 eyewitnesses to the highly-charged scenes which broke out inside the Rangers dressing room following the 4-0 defeat.

And a significant number of players are now willing to give testimony, adamant that there was no ‘bust-up’ between manager Murty and the two accused.

Club sources insisted skipper Wallace and talisman Miller launched into a foul-mouthed tirade aimed at the manager moments after the final whistle.

But this has come as a shock to many of those who were present at the time – and it has infuriated some of Murty’s squad who believe the duo are the victims of internal politics.

The Record claims that Wallace and Miller were involved in ‘heated discussions’ with team-mates in the dressing room but that Murty wasn’t present at the time.

Those discussions are likely to have been highly critical of the caretaker manager but with Murty not in the dressing room the club’s case for action becomes much weaker.

Significantly neither player has been fined for their part although it has been made clear that neither is expected to play again.

With news leaking out of the dressing room in all directions the hunt will be on to find out who reported the incident to the club management.

Murty is now even more of an outsider at the club and tasked with cobbling together a team to get through the final five fixtures starting on Sunday at home to Hearts.
