Chris Sutton believes that Graeme Murty should get out of Ibrox before the toxic nature of the tribute act destroys him.

Less than two years ago the former Reading utility man moved to Murray Park to replace Ian Durrant as coach to the Development squad.

Murty has twice been called upon to bail the club out after Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha were removed.

Sunday’s 4-0 hammering from Celtic at Hampden highlighted just how poor the playing squad is but the fall out afterwards has been incredible.

With the players and supporters at war with each other only a genuine managerial giant would be able to start solving the problems.

Not a coaching student unable to survive without a handy batch of buzzwords and his favourite power-point presentations to help young players through his coaching development journey.

With five matches left of the season Sutton believes that Murty should walk away and leave the shambles to other people to resolve.

Would I have hung around if I was Murty?” Scotland’s top pundit asked in the Daily Record. “ No. Why would he hang around?

He has been undermined. There is no way back. Why on earth would he want to stay there and see players around who have let him down? If that was me, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near the place.

This is a guy who went to Rangers as head development coach to try to further his coaching career, to build and gain experience.

He is then launched in at the deep end. What has happened in the last week, you can see it is a toxic place.

He has not been backed from the hierarchy. I didn’t understand the point of the statement from Dave King. Okay, it was about selling season tickets, but couldn’t it have waited until after the game?

He was undermined before a crucial game – he (King) basically said he didn’t trust him to take it on next season. That was needless.

And then for the players to turn with the whole suspension thing this week tells its own story. I do have sympathy for Murty. He was thrown in as caretaker and went along with it.”

Murty is expected to face the media tomorrow to preview Sunday’s match with Hearts but the entire focus will be on the defeat from Celtic and the aftermath.

Sevco have said nothing about Sunday’s events other than the briefest of comments about Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller being suspended.
