James McClean was a kid in a sweet shop today as Celtic played Ireland in Scott Brown’s testimonial.

The West Brom winger is no fair-weather Celtic fan, at every opportunity he watches the hoops in action with regular mentions on his social media accounts.

Some players struggle with their own National Anthem but after enjoying a stirring rendition of “Amhrán na bhFiann”  McClean was delighted to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone to a backdrop of over 50,000 Celtic fans with their scarves raised.

After enjoying himself at Hampden on Saturday McClean found himself lining up against his heroes and gave a great account of himself in a meaty dual against Jack Hendry.

Whenever he took a corner the fans rose to acclaim the former Derry City winger- if he had put the ball in the Celtic net there would have been a louder cheer for an opponent than Celtic Park has ever experienced.

Like Roy Keane, Shay Given and Robbie Keane there will always be speculation about McClean moving to Celtic, it is certainly interesting to speculate at how he would fit into Brendan Rodgers’ side.

With West Brom relegated a move is likely to be discussed but with his attitude whoever is in charge of the Miodlands side is likely to be keen on the Irishman staying around for a tilt at instant promotion from the Championship.
