Derek Johnstone has had confirmation of his unofficial Ibrox role and has been named a club ambassador.

For years Johnstone has offered his views on Radio Clyde and the Evening Times and has stuck closely to the message by whoever has been in power in the blue room of dignity.

Dave Murray, Craig Whyte, Charles Green, Derek Llambias and Dave King have all been able to count on the unwavering support of the former Rangers (IL) striker.

During the final days of the Murray regime Johnstone kept Radio Clyde listeners amused as he informed them on his swingometer that Dave King was waiting in the wings with a buy-out between 95-98% likely.

In June 2012 Her Majesty rejected a CVA forcing the club into liquidation with King’s hands stuck in his pocket.

Announcing his new official role DJ told Evening Times readers: “I signed my first professional deal with Rangers in season 1969/70. This week, I put pen-to-paper once again at Ibrox to rejoin the club in an ambassadorial role.

It is always a privilege to be involved with Rangers and it brought back a lot of memories when I signed my new contract.

It is great to be back, and I am back at a good time I think. I speak to a lot of the supporters and they are really looking forward to the season with Steven Gerrard coming in.

I am joining at the same time as Steven, but he will get slightly more publicity to be fair! But I am delighted to be able to do my bit and play my part as an ambassador.”

One of the highlights of Radio Clyde in recent years was the exchange between Johnstone and Chris Sutton, the former Celtic striker has never been invited back on the airwaves since.
