Carlos Pena is on his way back to Ibrox with an unmanageable tag.

Mexican side Cruz Azul have cut short a year long loan deal for the midfielder after a series of disciplinary problems.

Those came to a culmination when Pena was caught urinating in a hotel fountain while on club duty, shortly after being pictured buying booze from an off-sales while wearing his training kit.

Pedro Caixinha paid £3m to take the former Mexican internationalist to Ibrox with the pair reunited at Cruz Azul in January. It is believed that both men have the same agent.

Explaining the decision to axe Pena, Caixinha told the Daily Record: “The case of Gullit is very simple.

“The principles that Ricardo (new sports director of Cruz Azul, Ricardo Peláez) spoke of, commitment, discipline, because I also communicate with them and I already passed on one of my maxims: maximum freedom, maximum responsibility.

“I think nobody in Mexican football has given Gullit more opportunities than me in such a short time, but that does not mean I can do everything.

“When you go against the rules, principles, values and discipline of an institution and when you go against fundamental principles of players, the technical director, because you have to make decisions, I already passed the decision with Carlos, he will not continue with us.”

Pena signed a contract keeping him at Ibrox until the summer of 2020 and is believed to be on a basic wage of close to £30,000.

Caixinha was loathe to play him at the start of the season with the then 27-year-old barely capable of lasting the full 90 minutes.

Graeme Murty did give him a run in the side but he left in January and was filmed blowing his nose on Rangers shorts before completing his Cruz medical.

Harry Forrester has returned to Ibrox at the end of his loan spell with Wimbledon, the former England youth team starlet has a further season on his Ibrox contract.
