Amazon and Facebook have been in talks with the SPFL about the next ‘television’ contract which starts in 2020, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

News of interest from the internet giants is bound to please the clubs as they attempt to get in line with the sort of broadcasting deals that other European countries enjoy.

Sky Sports currently dominate broadcasting of the Scottish game with the SPFL receiving around £20m a year despite the high levels of interest in the domestic game.

BT Sport has a secondary contract and has been praised for it’s commitment and presentation of the game and has been considered favourites for the new deal.

Amazon recently completed a deal with the English Premier League to take rights online for the first time with the digital market largely untapped although numerous illegal streams are available.

Putting a legal service online would appeal to fans who have witnessed first hand how Amazon and other digital services have changed the face of many traditional services.
