Celtic are battling to keep hold of Dedryck Boyata.

The defender is out of contract next June with reports that Lazio have an offer ready for the hoops defender.

Celtic flew out to Austria yesterday with Boyata still in Russia on World Cup duty with Belgium.

Brendan Rodgers has described the 27-year-old as his first choice central defender but with the clock ticking down and outside interest growing Celtic have their work cut out to retain Boyata.

The Daily Record reports

However, Record Sport can confirm there has been no contact made to Celtic from Lazio and the Scottish champions are continuing to work on an extension to his current agreement.

With Belgium through to the last 16 of the World Cup Boyata will remain on international duty until next week at the earliest.

Celtic’s season begins in Armenia on July 10 with Rodgers forced to start the season without his first pick defender.

The hoops kick off their Austrian tour tomorrow with a match against Vorwarts.
