Brian Laudrup has broken away from the script and warned Sevco fans about the problems facing Steven Gerrard.

Signing a collection of free transfers, loan deals and two players on transfer fees appears to have given Sevco fans the idea that they are ready to sweep the board next season.

Gerrard the player from a decade ago has apparently been transformed into a top manager according to a number of hand picked experts.

The gullible have hung onto almost every word of praise with Sevco Ambassador Derek Johnstone proclaiming the current squad as the best in a decade!

Laudrup never quite fitted in with the culture and traditions inside Ibrox and warned chief cheerleaders BBC Scotland that reality could be a massive let down.

“If you go out and get seven or eight new players, they need time to gel and the problem is time is an issue when you’re playing in Scotland with a very good Celtic side,” the Dane warned. “Rangers have to be up for it right from the start.”

He added: “It will be interesting to see what ideas Gerrard tries to implement into the team, he’s not got a lot of time right now, he has to prepare for the Europa League already.

“It’s a huge job for a manager who hasn’t managed before apart from youth teams in Liverpool but, having said that, as a player, he was phenomenal and just by mentioning Gerrard’s name with Rangers a lot of players will be interested to join a club like that.”

Reality is less than two weeks away for Gerrard with the first round Europa League qualifier coming up against Shkupi of Macedonia.

Until he can get rid of some of last season’s flops there will be no new signings at Ibrox.
