Ally McCoist has warned Steven Gerrard that he’ll need funds to bring better players into Ibrox.
A month after being appointed Sevco have still to spend a penny on players with one loan deal and two Bosman’s added to last season’s failures.
Gerrard will take pre-season training on Friday and will get to know first hand the players that scrapped it out with Aberdeen and Hibs for second place.
There has been more transfer interest in the players at Pittodrie and Easter Road since the season ended with McCoist knowing the limitations of the squad assembled by Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha.
“Look at that squad and you think second, third,” the former Ibrox boss told the Daily Record. “I’m not surprised at that. People focus sometimes too much on wages, budgets and all that stuff.
“You just need to step back and take a look at the quality of player and that’s where Rangers are just now.
“To eventually challenge Celtic at the top of the league and win cups they will need better.
