World Cup exit for Alves

Bruno Alves is on his way back to Sevco after Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup by Uruguay.

The veteran defender never kicked a ball during his countries four matches but will now require a holiday before showdown talks with Steven Gerrard.

With transfer fees paid out for two new central defenders there is no room in the Sevco defence for Alves but that is unlikely to upset the £28,000/week defender who has 12 months left on his Ibrox contract.

Pedro Caixinha made the former Cagliari defender last summer’s marquee signing but little was seen of Alves who only managed to play one full match against Celtic.

So far Director of Football Mark Allen has failed miserably to shift the deadwood with only Micky O’Halloran removed from last season’s wage bill.

With the little pace that he had now gone it’s unlikely that there will be any interest from outside of Ibrox in matching the terms of Alves’ contract.
