Mikey Johnston has a big decision to make over the coming weeks.

The teenager has thrilled Celtic fans in his last two appearance, in the Scott Brown testimonial and Saturday’s friendly against Standard Liege.

Johnston scored Celtic’s fourth goal against the Belgian side but had to watch the first leg action against Alashkert from a seat in the stand.

The teenager’s talent isn’t in any doubt but the season ahead is vital to his development with the big question being where will his game improve most.

Brendan Rodgers already has plenty of attacking options but a loan move must be selected carefully to ensure that he gets the game time and experience needed to come back ready to compete for a regular place.

The bhoy from Stepps would love nothing better than to become a regular at Celtic but will weight things up carefully- in discussion with his manager.

I’m not sure how far away I am from being involved regularly,” Johnston told The SunI’m still young, but it’s all about getting games now, so we’ll see what happens.

Last season I had a taste of it, but I also had a thigh injury which kept me out for three months. That stunted my progress because I’d been hoping for more at that time.

That was disappointing, but you can’t let it affect you because you need to come back raring to go.

Hopefully, I can break through this year, but if not there are other options.

If this isn’t my year I’ll need to go somewhere else to play. I’ll see what the gaffer thinks.”

Johnston has been linked with a loan switch to Hibs as part of a deal for John McGinn.
