Sevco fans are getting softened up for Umar Sadiq starting Thursday’s Europa League qualifier against Osijek of Croatia.

After tales of Jermaine Defoe and Fernando Torres fuelled season ticket sales and delusions the reality is that they’ve been left with Alfredo Morelos and an untried Nigerian on loan from Roma.

In yesterday’s Daily Record readers were given an insight into Morelos’ problems including various claims about previously unpublished disciplinary issues.

After two woeful performances against Shkupi in the first qualifying round the former HJK Helsinki striker has come under fire from supporters with Steven Gerrard going public about the lack of quality in the final third.

This morning Record readers are getting the low-down on Sadiq from Stijn Vreven who was in charge of the striker at NAC Breda last season.

He warned: “Rangers supporters should expect the unexpected. If I had one piece of advice for Steven Gerrard then it would be to close his eyes sometimes when Umar Sadiq and hope that he produces a moment of magic.

I’ve never seen a player like him – he is one of a kind. The problem is that he plays as an individual and doesn’t think so much about the team or tactics. He is a little bit opportunistic.

Life was never smooth with Umar. For example, when we were eating together as a team he would forget and we’d find him sitting in the dressing room or he’d arrive late.

It was just little things that he didn’t seem to be used to. Team meetings and things like that. It got better after a while but he was sloppy in the beginning.”

Despite the hype surrounding the Revolution Gerrard has only paid a transfer fee for three players with one of those, Jamie Murphy, agreed in January when he came in on loan from Brighton.
