Kris Commons is amazed at the way the Dedryck Boyata situation has been played out in public.
Over the last fortnight every detail about what has been going on behind ‘closed doors’ has been made known.
After a straightforward transfer deal was turned down all hell has broken loose with an ‘injured’ player quickly recovering, his agent confronting a manager, the player sent to train with the youth team then invited back into the fold as long as he apologises to his team-mates!
Commons was involved in a very public fall out with Ronny Deila but apologised within 24 hours, accepted his medicine and got on with things even though it was clear that he wasn’t happy with the set up.
Giving his take on the stand off Commons told the Daily Mail: “There are plenty of players who have issues, such as missing home and their family. Perhaps they don’t even like the weather here.
“What you don’t usually hear — especially on the eve of an important game — is a player claiming he is injured and then a manager suggesting he is not.
“What has followed has been the nightmare scenario of the club crashing out of the Champions League. It’s all very bizarre and unprofessional.
“It has put Celtic in a position now where the question is: does Boyata leave in January for potentially a cut-price fee or potentially sign a contract with another club and leave for nothing next summer?
“Perhaps a deal can be struck before this transfer window closes but that remains to be seen, so he could well still be at Celtic at least until the next window opens.
“It’s a strange scenario and in all my years as a professional footballer, I’ve never known anything like it in terms of how it has been handled.”
Boyata is expected to resume first team training today and to be in the Celtic squad that travels to Lithuania to face Suduva on Thursday.
