Celtic have revived their interest in Filip Benkovic.

According to report from the reliable Stephen McGowan in the Daily Mail the hoops have been in touch with Leicester City about taking the defender on a season long loan.

Benkovic replaced Jozo Simunovic in the Dinamo Zagreb defence three years ago and has been linked with Celtic at various times.

Leicester paid £13m for the Croatian internationalist but he has still to make an appearance for Claude Puel’ s side.

Celtic have until Friday to bring in new faces which would almost certainly allow them to transfer Dedryck Boyata who is interesting clubs in Spain and Turkey.

The Mail reports:

And Sportsmail understands that Benkovic, yet to make a first-team appearance since signing for Leicester on English deadline day earlier this month, has joined Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna and Le Havre’s Harold Moukoudi on a list of potential reinforcements.

After an initial bid of £3.5m was rejected by the Dons, Celtic could yet make a fresh offer for McKenna.

Rodgers is confident of bringing in new faces to his defence after a long summer where Emilio Izaguirre was the only addition to that area of the side.

With the English transfer window already closed that is one less distraction for Celtic to deal with as they look to reach the group phase of the Europa League and pile the pressure onto Steven Gerrard’s Sevco revolution.
