Steven Gerrard is going to start with hot head striker Alfredo Morelos against Celtic on Sunday.

The former HJK Helsinki star has been sent off twice this month- failing to reach the half time whistle against Aberdeen and Ufa- with no transfer interest being shown.

Morelos had a torrid time against Celtic last season as the hoops cleaned up on derby day honours but is set to start Sunday’s showdown at noon.

I trust the player, I love the player,” Gerrard told The Sun.

You’ll see pretty soon how much I think of him. In the coming days, I hope we will manage to get the deal signed but what I do need from Alfredo – and what the players need – is for him to take a bit more responsibility.

The players love him. He’s a joker in the pack and they know what he gives them but he just needs to keep channelling it in the right way because otherwise these referees won’t keep you on the pitch.”

Sevco suffered four red card during August with Young McCrorie against St Mirren and Jon Flanagan against Ufa both being sent off.

Gerrard is being hailed as a football visionary for steering the tribute act into the group phase of the Europa League on a trail of debt created by a massive wage bill.

Morelos will be under the spotlight at Celtic Park where Willie Collum will ‘be in charge’.

Last season he was quick to send off Jozo Simunovic for an elbowing incident with the Colombian, whether he’ll issue Morelos with his third red card of the season remains to be seen.

Sevco are unlikely to appeal to Uefa against the red cards issued to Morelos and Flanagan in Russia.
