Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Celtic’s interest in Daniel Arzani but admitted that the teenager would be a few weeks away from making his debut.

Manchester City are expected to complete the transfer of the winger from Melbourne City with a two year deal with Celtic running in tandem.

Arzani caught the eye during three substitute appearances at the World Cup and is coming to Celtic at a similar stage in his career to Patrick Roberts.

Celtic will go into their remaining European matches with the squad that went to Austria for pre-season training with progress slow in the transfer market.

I can say something about him,” Rodgers told The Sun about Arzani after the 3-1 win over Livingston.

He is obviously finalising his deal with Manchester City and there are talks with ourselves in order for him to come in. It’s a possibility.

He is an exciting young talent and we’ll see if we can get that organised over the next few days. It won’t be done for midweek.

“He has only just flown in and hasn’t trained. He was at the World Cup so it will be a number of weeks before he is up to speed.”

Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic come into contention for Wednesday’s match against AEK Athens but Rodgers is likely to start with the partnership of Kris Ajer and Jack Hendry.
