John McGlynn is set to rejoin Raith Rovers as manager, according to a report in The Courier.

The 56-year-old has been working as a scout for Celtic over the last couple of seasons including the key task of assessing European opponents.

Managing Raith has been a troubled task in recent seasons with Barry Smith resigning a fortnight ago with John Hughes, Gary Locke and Ray McKinnon all having short spells in charge.

McGlynn did enjoy a successful six year stint in charge of the Kirkcaldy side from 2006 to 2012 and has been persuaded back into front line management.

Despite Smith’s resignation Raith are currently sitting in second place in League One, four points behind leaders Arbroath.

McGlynn is best known for his regular stints as a caretaker manager at Hearts with his last front line management job being at Livingston from September 2013 to December 2014.
