Alan Stubbs has been sacked as St Mirren manager- four matches into the SPFL season.

After a day of speculation the Paisley side made the announcement tonight just before 8pm.

St Mirren conducted an extensive recruitment process before opting for Stubbs who lifted the Scottish Cup for Hibs in 2016.

After beating Dundee in the opening league match St Mirren have crashed to defeats against Sevco, Livingston and Hearts with a Betfred Cup defeat at Aberdeen thrown into that mix.

Tales of unrest among players who were questioning the arrival of largely inexperienced new arrivals seem to have struck a chord in the Paisley boardroom.

Former Ross County boss Jim McIntyre, who last week turned down the chance to manage Falkirk, was linked with today’s reports that Stubbs was about to be sacked.

St Mirren’s next match is a week on Friday, following the international break, at home to Celtic.
