Rodgers on Celtic’s goal drought

Brendan Rodgers believes that Celtic’s problems in front of goal are down to a number of issues.

The departures of Stuart Armstrong and Moussa Dembele are an obvious answer but last season neither player got close to their form during the invincible season.

Seven SPFL goals in seven matches is a grim toll with almost half of that tally coming in the opening match of the season against Livingston- since then Celtic haven’t scored more than one goal in any match.

It’s not difficult to discover worrying stats with Rodgers working round the clock to deliver a solution.

When you lose the players we have then it will make a difference,” the Celtic boss explained to The Sun. “It’s not just Moussa, there is a collective.

There are Stuart Armstrong’s goals and his running ability and we had Paddy Roberts leave too.

Are the lack of goals down to poor finishing or no creativity? There are a number of reasons.

We’ve struggled a little to create opportunities and the speed of our game has something to do with that.

There’s no doubt we’ve not scored anywhere near as many goals as we’d have liked.”

Tom Rogic will be available for tomorrow’s match at St Johnstone- opponents that Celtic took 84 minutes to break down 10 days ago.

In the first seven Premiership matches of the 2016/17 season Celtic scored 24 goals as they stormed to the top of the table scoring five against Sevco, four against Aberdeen and six at home to Kilmarnock.
