Star Celt dismisses burnout theory

Kieran Tierney isn’t looking for a rest at Dundee tonight and the chance to so sit with his pals behind the goal.

The defender has clocked up 25 appearances already this season but would rather be out on the park than taking it easy with selected days off.

Emilio Izaguirre returned as cover during the summer transfer window but unless Tierney picks up an injury the Honduran is unlikely to see much action.

Since making the breakthrough early in the 2015/16 season Tierney has been a fixture in the Celtic defence and that’s exactly the way that he likes it.

Burn-out is something people mention but you try not to think about it,” the defender told The Sun. “The more you do maybe it does affect you.

I just look at it as a game of football. You’re living your dream, so enjoy every single minute. I’m not looking for any rests.

If you’re carrying a knock then maybe. But if you’re feeling good, then I’m hoping to play and I’m wanting to play. I was carrying something with Scotland. At training I had been sore and had quite bad shin splints.

If the manager had said to me, ‘Can you play?’ I would have played 100 per cent but he thought it would be best just to give me a rest. My Scotland trip wasn’t great with the own goal, but there’s not much you can do. I tried my best and unfortunately it ended up in the net.”

Tierney has been the mainstay in the Celtic defence this season with the central pairing changing on an almost game by game basis.

Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic started against RB Leipzig last Thursday with Filip Benkovic and Kris Ajer taking over for the win over Hearts.

Boyata is likely to come back into the side for tonight’s match against Dundee as Celtic attempt to build on their impressive recent domestic results.
