John McGinn has withdrawn from the Scotland squad to face Albania on Saturday night.

The midfielder has been a regular for Aston Villa and Scotland this season but has been sent back to his club for treatment on a calf injury.

Since he went public on his criticism of Leigh Griffiths, McLeish has had his plans decimated by injury and players opting out on international duty.

Leading up to announcing his squad James McArthur announced his international retirement while Matt Ritchie and Robert Snodgrass decided to make themselves unavailable.

On Saturday Stephen O’Donnell, Charlie Mulgrew and Kevin McDonald called off with Craig Gordon pulling out the next day.

Ryan Jack was called in as a replacement on Sunday but left injured on Tuesday with Mikey Devlin pulling out on Wednesday.

With McGinn pulling out this morning McLeish could be tempted to bring in Andy Halliday for his first full cap.

Scotland play Albania on Saturday followed by Israel on Tuesday needing to take four points to top their Nations League group to go forward into two qualifiers for a place in the 2020 European Championships.
