There are mixed reports over the extent of Daniel Arzani’s injured knee.

Australian publications are reporting on what is being published in Scotland and vice versa.

Brendan Rodgers will preview tomorrow’s match against Hearts later today in which an update will be given on the injury to the Australian teenager.

Illustrating the ping-pong nature of the coverage The Herald reports:

We understand these reports were premature. Arzani’s knee had swollen so much it made it impossible for medical staff to determine the full extent of the damage. On Wednesday night, medical staff were unable to say whether it was only a minor problem and there remains a fear of cartilage which would at least nine months on the sidelines.

From the players reaction to trying to stand up after being treated by Tim Wilkinson it does seem that there is serious interior damage to his knee.

Rerunning the incident it seems that a simple slip put extra pressure on his knee as he tumbled to the ground.

What the actual damage is will be a lottery with the only saving feature being that the damage wasn’t caused by an opponents boot.

Arzani’s game requires complete mobility, being able to change direction and run at pace taking the ball past opponents.

Although it was a different injury Henrik Larsson demonstrated 19 years ago that it is possible to recover from the most brutal of injuries- not many people who saw the Swede’s broken shin as he lay on the turf in Lyon would have predicted a full recovery never mind the glory and honours that the Swede would achieve over the next decade.
