Lee McCulloch has warned Leigh Griffiths to cut out the celebrations for his own good!

The Ibrox legend has watched in agony over the last two years as Celtic have won 10 and drawn two Glasgow derbies.

Both of the drawn matches have resulted in incredible scenes of celebration from tribute act players, with some fans likening it to the notorious scenes at Firhill in May 2017 when Pedro Caixinha’s side scored a stoppage time winner against Partick Thistle.

According to McCulloch, who captained the tribute act to lower division title wins in 2013 and 2014 Griffiths needs stopped for his own safety.

In the Evening Times the Ibrox legend explained: “There’s nothing wrong with going up to your fans to thank them for their support and acknowledge that, but there’s no place for rubbing the noses of the opposition fans in it. All it does is give a certain element an excuse to behave badly.

You can argue whether or not the burden of responsibility should rest with players or fans to ensure good behaviour, but I would agree that things like Leigh Griffiths celebrating in front of the Rangers fans, as we saw after the last game at Celtic Park, should be stopped. That isn’t sour grapes from a Rangers fan, that is as much for his own safety as anything else.”

If that ‘certain element’ can’t contain themselves the club that provided them with tickets should ensure that they don’t get any future tickets.

Pushing and crushing disabled supporters to scream abuse at a footballer doesn’t really have a place in modern society- unless it involves the Ibrox club.
