Golden Griffiths goal earns Celtic place in the last 32 of Europa League

|

He was far away from the action tonight but a goal from Leigh Griffiths took Celtic into the last 32 of the Europa League.

Previewing the tie with RB Salzburg Brendan Rodgers revealed that the striker wouldn’t be involved as he dealt with some personal problems.

Celtic did slip up against the Austrians but back in September Griffiths was the match-winner when Celtic opened their Europa League campaign against Rosenborg.

The game seemed destined to finish as a goal-less draw but with the clock ticking down Dedryck Boyata headed the ball down in the penalty box with Griffiths finding the net.

That same night RB Leipzig lost at home to their colleagues in Austria.

Celtic and RB Leipzig beat each other at home, won away to Rosenborg but at home to the Norwegians it was Celtic that won full points with the Germans drawing at home tonight.

There will be only one Scottish team in the knock out phase of the Europa League.
