Within two days of their Perth summit Scottish referees and the SFA are back to contradicting themselves.

On Saturday in his St Mirren debut Brad Lyons picked up two yellow cards as the Paisley side fell two goals behind Alloa to be left staring at an early exit from the Scottish Cup.

Don Robertson’s decision was widely criticised in the media but as we discovered in the leaked news from Ibrox, if the referee sees something then the SFA can’t apply retrospective action. Or can they?

It seems that someone somewhere within the SFA decided that Lyons hadn’t dived with the second yellow rescinded allowing him to play in the next round of the cup. Fortunately, despite being reduced to ten men St Mirren came back to win the match 3-2.

Robertson finds himself back in the spotlight as he takes charge at Kilmarnock where Steven Gerrad’s side are the visitors in front of the BT Sport cameras. Assising Robertson tonight is Ralph Gordon who wrongly disallowed a ‘goal’ from Scott Sinclair against Airdrie United/Clydebank on Saturday.
