Filip Benkovic seems certain to see out the season at Celtic.
The defender arrived on a season long loan from Leicester at the end of the summer transfer window and instantly made a big impression on the Celtic side.
Like most loan deals Leicester have an option to recall Benkovic this month but with Leicester injury free and riding high in the EPL with three wins from their last four matches that seems unlikely.
Claude Puel’s job seems to be the subject of constant speculation but after yesterday’s 1-0 win at Everton he gave Sky Sports a brief update on the situation with the loan Celt.
He said: “We have a lot of defenders at the club. Assuming we don’t get any injuries, it’s better Filip maintains his loan at Celtic.”
Benkovic suffered a couple of early injuries but the establishment of his partnership with Dedryck Boyata coincided with Celtic discovering their best form of the season.
Brendan Rodgers faces a major job rebuilding his defence for next season’s European qualifiers but it seems certain that he will have Benkovic available for the remainder of this season including the Europa League qualifiers against Valancia.
