Celtic players give ‘friend for life’ Rodgers the silent treatment

One factor was missing from Brendan Rodgers’ departure from Celtic for Leicester City- best wishes or thanks from any of the players he left behind.

Social media reactions are a regular feature as managers move on but there wasn’t a single message posted on line from the Celtic players. In his cringe-worthy departure message Rodgers described the players glowingly claiming ‘Every one of them will be a friend for life.’

It seems that that sentiment isn’t two way.

Rodgers took training as normal on Monday before Scott Bain was put up for the media to preview the clash with Hearts on Wednesday night.

The usual questions, and answers were given about speculation linking the Irishman with a move to Leicester, all of the Celtic players are well used to the drill.

All the while it seems that Rodgers’ representatives were in negotiations with Leicester, only the incredibly naive would believe that negotiations started on Tuesday after Celtic granted permission for talks. By 7pm the move had completed including statements and social media videos confirming the deals.

After all the talk about working for the love of his life it seems that Rodgers made a very low key departure from Celtic without a proper good-bye to the staff at Lennoxtown or even a backward glance to Celtic Park which he left for the last time as manager on Sunday.
