Former SPL chief amazed by Motherwell reaction

Roger Mitchell seems to have found his voice in a way that was never used when he was chief executive of the SPL.

During his tenure a lucrative television deal with Sky Sports was rejected with the Scottish game massively undervalued ever since.

Mitchell does seem to enjoy trolling but yesterday he was on very firm ground as he took Motherwell to task.

Of course the Fir Park side never broke any of the laws of the game but now and then there are things more important than pinching a goal, a point or three.

Player safety is a key issue, as Carl McHugh was later to discover, but Motherwell under Stephen Robinson decided to put player safety on the back burner as they took advantage of an injury to Ryan Christie.

Rather than return the ball to Celtic in time honoured fashion they raced down the park and put the ball in the back of the net!

Robinson then had the chance to redeem the situation by conceding a goal to Celtic, after 130 senior matches as a manager he knew what was the right thing to do.

His decision during the match and comments afterwards won’t do him, or his players, any favours going forwards.
