Deflection is now sadly as much a part of football as it is in politics.

Rather than deal with and answer issues managers and clubs prefer to discuss something else, often fabricated.

Yesterday after losing to Celtic Stephen Robinson knew that the main topic of discussion was his side’s goal, scored as Celtic waited for the ball to be returned from a throw-in conceded by the injury to Ryan Christie.

Motherwell opted to play on, after the match Robinson had to explain his side’s actions, the best that he could come up with was that he didn’t know what to do as James Scott set up a goal for Gboly Aribiyi.

Later in the match Carl McHugh suffered a head knock, after lengthy treatment he was stretchered off with everyone inside the ground aware of the serious nature of the injury.

As he was stretchered off most fans applauded, a long standing tradition among most fans although Robinson heard something else.

“The vast majority of Celtic fans actually applauded him off but there was a section of them actually cheering when he went off which is poor,” The Sun reports the Motherwell boss saying.

“There will be headlines written about young James Scott but that’s not right.

“We are really concerned about Carl and fingers crossed for good news but he won’t play for the foreseeable future.”

Perhaps after reviewing the events of yesterday Robinson might wish to correct a few actions and comments that he made yesterday.
