Later today Celtic will discover later the extent of Callum McGregor’s calf injury.

Yesterday the midfielder missed his first game of the season due to injury when he sat out the 4-1 win over Motherwell as Celtic restored their eight point lead at the top of the SPFL.

Nir Bitton and Ewan Henderson didn’t look out of place as they started their first matches of the season but Brendan Rodgers will be keen to have McGregor back for Wednesday’s clash with Hearts at Tynecastle.

“He’s picked up an injury from the midweek,” the Celtic boss explained in the Daily Record.

“We would’ve taken him off but we were down to 10 men and he didn’t feel it too bad but then the last few days its stiffened up so we’ll see what the result of the X-ray is on that.”

Ryan Christie picked up a hamstring injury, triggering the controversy of the Motherwell goal, and looks likely to be out of action for a couple of weeks.

With Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard both out injured Rodgers is running out of midfield options although Scott Brown will be available again after serving a one match suspension.

Hearts don’t have their problems to seek with Craig Levein under attack with Saturday’s home draw against St Mirren coming on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Motherwell.

After starting the season with six straight wins Hearts host Celtic trailing the SPFL leaders by 19 points.
