Steve Clarke has stepped into the refereeing storm warning that nothing will be done after another weekend of outrageous decisions.
The Kilmarnock boss was far from happy by the display of Steven McLean during Friday’s 2-1 defeat from Hearts with the weekend displays getting progressively worse.
While Andrew Dallas handed out penalties like they were going out of fashion at Ibrox Willie Collum watched Oliver Burke, Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard come under attack from St Johnstone players without pointing to the spot.
Two weeks ago the SFA arranged a back slapping deflection ‘referee summit’ at Perth attended by managers, referees and Compliance Officer Clare Whyte.
Clarke was given 48 hours notice of the meeting and already had plans for the night- after the weekend howlers from referees it seems that nothing worthwhile was missed.
Kilmarnock travel to Dundee on Wednesday night but at his pre-match media conference Clarke felt the need to address the weekend performances of John Fleming’s favourite referees.
“You sit here on a Monday after a weekend where everyone talks about referees,” he told STV. Consistency of refereeing. One player runs to the crowd yesterday to celebrate a goal and gets a yellow card.
“One player runs to the crowd to celebrate a goal and doesn’t get a yellow card. Five penalty decisions in one game… one correct, four wrong.
“There was an offside decision in our game on Friday night. Insignificant. It wasn’t in a dangerous position, it was given offside by the East Stand linesman. Three metres onside. Three metres. That’s the side of this desk or more.
“Has he been pulled up about it? Has he been shown it? Has he been told that it was wrong? Probably not. He probably doesn’t even know it’s a mistake. It has to be sorted.”
Tomorrow the SFA will announce the refereeing appointments for the weekend Scottish Cup ties.
