Bungling Alex McLeish has turned to a stomach upset to explain the confrontation between James McFadden and Callum McGregor.

On a night of complete catastrophe for the Scotland boss a clash between his captain and assistant manager managed to deflect attention away from a horrendous performance.

Virtually every decision that McLeish took was open to ridicule with Liam Palmer and Graeme Shinnie probably the worst ever full-back partnership in Scotland’s history.

Paying tribute to the fun-loving Tartan Army is an essential ritual of all Scotland team’s with that excuse used to explain the clash that was the buzz of social media straight after the final whistle.

The Sun reports:

ALEX McLEISH has revealed Scott McTominay had a stomach bug after the Scotland star appeared to snub the Tartan Army.

The Man United midfielder sprinted up the tunnel at full-time following the humiliating 3-0 defeat to Kazakhstan.

That looked to have caused a bust-up involving Celtic midfielder and national team stand-in skipper Callum McGregor and coach James McFadden.

But Eck insisted the Old Trafford ace, a second-half sub, had to race to the toilet.

He said: “He [McTominay] had a stomach upset.”

McLeish can now explain to Manchester United why he sent on one of their players with an upset stomach as confidence in the Scotland boss goes down the toilet.

Blackburn Rovers, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday all pulled players out on the flimsiest of grounds with other clubs bound to think twice about releasing their players to a manager that thinks his side started well despite being 2-0 down to a nation 77 places lower in the FIFA rankings.
