Kieran Tierney has suffered a calf injury while on international duty.

The defender is flying home to Glasgow from Kazakhstan as Celtic assess the injury ahead of next Sunday’s Glasgow derby.

Tierney was out of action for more than two months due to a pelvic injury but according to The Sun that wasn’t the reason behind his absence from the 3-0 defeat to Kazakhstan.

They report:

News of left-back Tierney having to withdraw from the disaster in Kazakhstan was met with widespread scepticism and suspicion that Hoops chiefs had put pressure on the 21-year-old to miss the qualifier on a plastic pitch.

But Tierney, who has played the last five games for the seven-in-a-row champions after a spell out with a pelvic problem, WAS injured and gutted not to rack up his 13th Scotland cap.

Despite initial fears that he had aggravated an injury which sidelined him for two-and-a-half months, SunSport understands the £25million-rated star’s problem is now a calf knock.

Tierney is expected to jet back to Glasgow for immediate treatment from the Hoops’ medical staff.

If Tierney is unavailable for the derby fixture Neil Lennon will have to turn to Emilio Izaguirre or Jonny Hayes.

Of equal concern will be the fact that the defender reported for international duty and returned with a fresh injury.

Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers pulled players out of the Scotland squad without hesitation while five Celtic players reported for a bizarre trip to effectively Asia.

Scotland flew out on Monday for the match with someone at the SFA deciding to remain on UK time with the players living in a bubble pretending it was a 3pm kick off yesterday despite it being pitch black with the match finishing at 10.45pm local time.
